opera
I refuse to support Opera as a viable browser until it supports CSS properly. I mean, you’d think that based on this chart Opera would be the must have browser, and yet it falls down on so many points that involve positioning.
I can see how the WaSP still promotes it as a standards compliant browser, but for it’s usefulness as an alternative it’s out of context. It hardly supports any of the properties that designers need to push the medium further and walk away from table based layouts. I see it as a close second to NS4.x, that vampire of a web browser that refuses to die. In fact, I would choose NS4.x before Opera. It least I know what it’s gonna do.
I’m going to consider it as useless as NS4.x and turn my back on it. It simply continues to be an obstacle right now.
free to criticize
I have to say that michelle is dead on, when she points out that Politically Incorrect shouldn’t be pulled for offering up criticism of the government or the military.
Bill Maher, in his opening on 9/17 said,
“And I do not relinquish, nor should any of you, the right to criticize, even as we support, our government.
This is still a democracy, and they’re still politicians.
So we need to let our government know that we can’t afford a lot of things that we used to be able to afford, like a missile shield, that will never work, for an enemy that doesn’t exist.
We can’t afford to be fighting wrong and silly wars — the Cold War, the drug war, the culture wars, busting television producers at the airport for taking funny mushrooms to Las Vegas while the terrorist-looking guys with the knives get right on.
We have to outgrow childish and antiquated stuff real fast.
Can we? Can we change?”
It’s a time to really question. Question why this happened. Question the decisions of our leaders. Let them know we are capable, watchful citizens, who will refuse to be blindly led by the hand, as if we were children.
We as Americans have a habit of non-involvement. We prefer to let others deal with the larger world issues. This leads us to be oblivious to what occurs in the world and ignorant of the actions taken by our government in our name. We as Americans must first conquer our ignorance. We can no longer walk through this world blindly, taking no notice of the world outside US borders. Like Bill Maher, I can only ask one question.
Can we?

gravitas
I learned a new word tonight. gravitas. It was used in regards to president Bush. The senator who used it, believed the president has it. I still believe he doesn’t. The words may sound strong, but I can’t look at him saying them.
Dubya constantly has this shit-eatin’ grin on his face every time he says something, as if he’s thinking, “I just said something cool, didn’t I?”, or “Look at me, I’m the president, everybody has to listen to me, woohoo!”.
I believe he’s sincere in his goals, but it’s this look of insincerity on his face that hits me every time I see him speak. I know he didn’t write a damn word of tonight’s speech. It seemed more of a pep talk to rally the government, because he surely didn’t say anything of meaning to me. I did not find the speech amazing or historic. I think back to the firmness in JFK’s voice, the decisiveness in his manner, and then I think of Dubya.
He is not dynamic.
He has no gravitas.
ch-ch-ch-ch-changes
Many changes are occurring in my life at the moment. And they all seem to be for the better.

getting around
Metropolitan Transportation Authority Home Page will have updates and maps letting people in the NYC and outlying areas know how to get around, and how to get to the lower manhattan area in the upcoming weeks.
Ferry schedules can be accessed at NY Waterway. and a phone number for information is 1-800-53-FERRY.
For Staten Island Ferry info you can call 718-815-BOAT.
Plan on lots of extra time to commute in and out.
And for god sakes, be excellent to each other!
hand him over
Again at salon.com. Pakistan is asking the Taliban to hand over Bin Laden. Despite threats that the Afghani militia would wage war on any country aiding US attacks on Afghanistan, Pakistani sources have confirmed that Pakistan has agreed to a full list of US demands in the event of an assault on the Taliban.
