I’d love to be in on some of the marketing/advertising meetings that must be happening lately. Television commercials have been getting progressively more bizarre and some are even downright shocking the first time you see them. Commercials like this Pennzoil Train ad freaked me out the first time I saw it.

Then there are my favourite ads; the gaming ads. They can do nearly anything they like. the more over the top the better. Like this Nintendo ad or this newer GameBoy advance ad. There’s a newer one out which is just surreal and very slick. It’s not posted anywhere yet otherwise I’’d link it. I’m just amazed that these people get to do ads like these. I’d love to be part of that.

There’s much more creativity happening in television commercials than there is in most hollywood movies these days. It’s a shame that there seems to be no crossover in that kind of thinking or mentality in hollywood. Movies seem to have degenerated into long-form trailers, where there is an emphasis on the latest technology without a foundation in story, or character development. More on this later.
