Submitted for your perusal, may I present the short list of celebrities, bands and musicians that have achieved fame and rave reviews, but that I just don’t get.
Actors/TV Personalities
- Mike Meyers
- Yep, I don’t get, and have never really cared for, any of his characters, most especially Austin Powers. I barely see the humour, I certainly don’t see the reason for the hype.
- Richard Gere
- Has to be one of the most stoic and uncomfortable looking actors I’ve ever seen.
- Tracey Ullman
- Please… make it stop.
- Woody Allen
- Don’t try and talk me out of it. I’ve seen the movies. They suck. Why is he allowed to continue to act or make films?
- Melanie Griffith
- Talented? I think not.
- Tom Green/Johnny Knoxville
- Lumped together because that’s what they should be. Oh wait, you mean their talent is their willingness to do things no one else really wants to? Oh ok. Sorry, I didn’t understand. Pass the yams.
Bands/Musicians
- Kid Rock
- I don’t see the talent, the relevance, or why he is garnering so much praise. I’ve tried, really I have.
- Ice-T
- Ice Cube is light years beyond him. Granted he has a certain presence and personality, but as a rapper, I never saw his talent. I always thought he was the worst I ever heard.
- Lou Reed
- A huge influence on a number of friends of mine, and his talent is recognized by a wide audience of faithfuls. I don’t share their enthusiasm or delusions.
- Courtney Love/Hole
- C’mon now. Hole sucked. Admit it, and lets move on. I don’t care how much angst she had, she and Hole didn’t deserve the amount of praise they got.
- Sean “Puffy Daddy” “P-Diddy” Combs
- You really think he’s talented? Really? No seriously. Really?
- Tenacious D
- You all seem to get it. I’ve never understood the infatuation. It’s not like I dislike Jack Black or anything. It’s just that the D isn’t my kind of thing, but you do what you want to do. Don’t let little things like taste stand in your way.
You may now commence throwing vegetables, or debate the validty of these so-called celebrities and stars. I’ll save the rest for another time.
