spidey love

Spider-Man e-cards? Are they frelling serious? Next thing you know they’ll be hanging curtains in the theatre and calling it a chick movie. I can hear the whole post movie commentary now.

Director Sam Rami:
“We tried to deal with the sub-plot of the love story between Peter and MJ in a way that would appeal to both class of Spider-Man fans, and still not get in the way of the story.”

Tobey Maguire:
“Peter’s love for MJ is the whole reason I found the character of Spider-Man so intriguing. He’s a superhero and a love-sick puppy at the same time. Of course it doesn’t hurt to have Kirsten Dunst playing opposite you in a wet t-shirt, but I digress.”

Someone please kill me now.

Lets get this straight. Spidey is a guy’s superhero. He’s one of us; a loner. Shy, quiet, ostracized. A geek with superpowers. Now he’s getting the David Cassidy treatment. He’ll be on the cover of Tiger Beat and doing 2 shows a night in Vegas soon. Ugh, I’m getting ill just thinking about it. Here’s hoping they don’t destroy all my childhood superheroes. I have so little. Leave me Spider-Man at least.

And who the hell still sends e-cards anyway?

the hair

The hairstyle in the cam is a joke. I had just finished watching Basquiat, and decided to be a little silly. It’s part of the Stupid Hair Tricks™ collection, coming out later this year. Never fear, I don’t go out in public like that. I only go public on the internet like that.

stagger, stagger

“…stagger, stagger, crawl, crawl”

Sorry, I’ve been slacking on the posting, but I’ve been busy working on a few projects, and my sleep schedule is all messed up. At the moment I’ve been up 24 hours straight (which is nothing really) in the hopes that I might fall asleep at a decent hour (like 3am instead of 8am). I need to get myself into a more regimented way of working.

Ok, now what movie is that opening quote from?

singing solos

To really know me is to know that I have a favourite guitar solo that I love to sing to. Sing to, you say? Yes, sing to. Ok well, maybe not sing to. More like sing with. I tend to sing along with some of my favourite guitar solos, mimicking the guitar. Corny I know, but I love some guitar solos so much that I learn them like you would learn lyrics. I can play almost any them on guitar as well, but there’s always been one that I have known note for note vocally, but never learned on guitar. It also happens to be my favourite.

How could this be? My favourite guitar solo [Ed. note—I mean vocally. I don’t think I have an all-time favourite guitar solo.] and I never learned to play it? Well, although I’ve always enjoyed their music, I have never owned any albums by the group, and my assumption was always that I knew it so well vocally, that playing it was never an issue. I just knew it.

How wrong I was.

Turns out that while I can nearly sing it acapella, I don’t know a stitch of it on guitar. It surprised the crap out of me. I had downloaded a few essential songs by the group and was listening to them today while doing some work. Everytime the song in question came on I would sing the solo as usual. I sound like a nut, I know. But finally the lightbulb went off in my head.

“Hey, guess what? You, the song, and your guitar are all in the same place. Why don’t you see if you can play it?”, I said.

“Why? I know it inside and out.”, I countered.

“Yes but you’ve never played it.”

“Ok, I’ll show you, wiseass.”

“Ugh! I can’t play it. Wait, what was that note? I could’ve sworn I knew that lick. Dammit!! See what you’ve done to me now!”

Needless to say, I’ve spent the last few hours working out what my head knew, but my hands didn’t. It was a blast.

I get such a kick out of that solo.
